How We Cut Page Load Time by 62% for a UK SaaS Platform
A UK-based HR SaaS product was losing users to slow load times. We migrated them from Create React App to Next.js, achieving a 62% improvement in Largest Contentful Paint and a 97 Lighthouse score.
The Challenge
The client's React SPA was scoring 54 on Google Lighthouse. Their bounce rate was 68% - far above the SaaS industry average of 40%. Every 1-second delay was costing them an estimated 7% in trial signups. Their dashboard had 22 separate API calls on mount, unoptimized images, and no server-side rendering.
The Solution
We performed a phased migration from Create React App to Next.js App Router. We converted the marketing pages to SSG, the authenticated dashboard to SSR, and implemented ISR for the reports section. We replaced all images with next/image, consolidated 22 API calls into 6 server-side fetches, and deployed on Vercel's edge network.
